Jason Mackey has dog mushing in his blood. Jason has ran sled dogs since he was a little boy.

Growing up his dad, Dick Mackey, was involved in the Iditarod and was the 1978 Iditarod champion. Jasons oldest brother, Rick Mackey, was the 1983 Iditarod champion.

Jason and his brother Lance were hooked. Jason and Lance trained side by side for years. Lance became a champion in the Yukon Quest and Iditarod and was a legend in the mushing world.

Jason Mackey is Alaska born and raised. He has spent 40 plus years running and racing sled dogs. Jason ran his first Iditarod in 2004 finishing his rookie year in 26th place.  Jason has competed in 9 Iditarod races, as well as many other dog sled races.

After losing his brother to cancer in 2022, Jason is more driven then ever. On Fathers Day, Lance gave Jason a hug, shook his hand, and said “Go get them, you can do this … it’s your time !”

Whilst the world grieves the loss of a legend, Jason grieves the loss of a brother, a friend, a traveling partner and a champion.

RIP LANCE MACKEY.
