Jason Mackey awarded Lynden Committed through the Last Mile Red Lantern Award

Jason finishes Iditarod 2023 and wins the Red Lantern

Jason rolled down Front Street in Nome with five dogs.

He had a total race time of 12 days 2 hours 3 minutes and 7 seconds.

Jason received $1000 and the Red Lantern award.

He started this years race in Anchorage by cutting the ribbon, and he ended this years race by extinguishing the Widow’s Lamp that hangs on the burled arch in Nome.

The widow’s lamp dates back to when roadhouses were used along the supply trails of Alaska.

Extinguishing the lamp is a sign that no other mushers remain out on the trail.

Jason carried his brother Lance’s ashes as well as their mothers ashes on the trail.

He spread Lances ashes in places he knew Lance liked – outside of Skwetna, the top of Rainy Pass, on the river near Ophir and on the river near White Mountain.

This was an emotional journey for Jason.

But this wasn’t the end.

This is only the beginning.

Mack is back !
